Catheter complications, like sudden blockages or dislodgment, often result in frantic and uncomfortable trips to the emergency room. Having a dedicated home health nurse provides an essential layer of safety and ongoing clinical monitoring. Furthermore, managing these highly personal medical needs in the privacy of your own home helps preserve dignity and reduces anxiety for both the patient and their loved ones.
Our skilled nursing team is available for scheduled visits and ongoing urological support throughout Madison, Whitewater, and the greater Dane County area.
Please reach us at ylli@lindenhomecare.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
To begin, you will need a written order from your doctor (such as your primary care physician, urologist, or hospital discharge planner) prescribing skilled nursing for catheter care. Once we receive this referral, our team will coordinate with your medical provider, verify your insurance or Medicare benefits, and schedule an initial in-home assessment with one of our nurses.
Our nursing team is fully trained to manage Foley (indwelling) catheters, suprapubic catheters (excluding exchanges), and intermittent straight catheterization programs.
Home health aides can assist with basic daily tasks, such as emptying a catheter drainage bag and helping with general personal hygiene. However, they cannot legally insert or remove catheters, perform sterile site care, or troubleshoot blockages. Those clinical tasks require the advanced training of a skilled nurse (RN or LPN).
Yes, Medicare generally covers 100% of the cost for in-home skilled nursing if a doctor deems it medically necessary, it requires a licensed nurse's skills, and the patient is considered homebound. Our team will verify your specific insurance coverage before care begins.
